Introducing Bart Bakker Orchids
It sounds so simple: getting a Cymbidium to bloom. There is, however, a lot more to it. Here is a brief background to Bart Bakker Orchids.
Bart Bakker Orchids nursery started cultivating Cymbidiums 25 years ago (under the name of W. Bakker & Zn). Wim Bakker was one of the first cultivators at the time in Holland. Now his son, Bart Bakker, is at the helm of the business. The company currently has five employees.
Our greenhouse is 15 thousand square metres in size. There are thousands of different sorts of Cymbidium plant inside the greenhouse, for example, Timaru, Koala and Rotorua. The greenhouse boasts all the conveniences of modern technology. One result of this is that the Cymbidium twigs are transported by monorail from the greenhouse to the storage so the twigs are in no way harmed by the transportation process.
Bart Bakker Orchids cross-cultivates new varieties of Cymbidiums. Some of our success stories are Timaru, Koala, Sjokotof and Rotorua. By cross-cultivating we can be selective on firmness, length, production and sustainability with a vase-life of at least two weeks.
The cultivation of the Cymbidiums is environmentally friendly. Bart Bakker Orchids reuses the warmth released by the neighbouring companies during the energy production. As many biological methods as possible are used during the cultivation, like predatory mites and bees. Bart Bakker Orchids complies with the environmental quality control MPS A.
The Cymbidiums by Bart Bakker Orchids are not sold directly to the end user: they are sold via exporters and wholesalers. By using this method we can ensure that our Cymbidiums are available to the end user through florists in countries such as Portugal, the United States, Dubai and Russia.
